Our elementary principal, Ms. Rowen, is retiring from Wolsey-Wessington School at the end of the school year. We interviewed her to see how she was feeling about it and  to scope out her future plans.

What made you decide that this was going to be your last year?

“It had a lot to do with the building process and the library—now that it is all done, I feel I can leave the school in the hands of others.”

What was your favorite part about being the elementary principal? “The students…and meeting new ones and bonding with them.”

What are you going to miss the most? “Definitely the students. This has been my life for the last 29 years, and leaving all of the students is going to be very hard for me.”

What are your plans after retirement? “ I am going to open up my own coffee shop—after I go to roasting school to learn to roast my own coffee. It has always been a dream of mine to open my own coffee shop, and now is my time to pursue that dream.”
