Every year on the 2nd of February groundhogs day comes around with many people looking if the groundhog found its shadow. But when did groundhogs day come to be what it is today and when did the legend start? The tradition was made because people relied on animals typically badgers to tell when to plant their crops and when spring will occur. Punxsutawney held its first Groundhog Day in the United States in the 1800s. The first official trek to Gobbler’s Knob was made on February 2, 1887. The predictions of the ground hog is an average of 40% accurate. This year Phil the groundhog did not see his shadow this means that spring is supposedly right around the corner. Whether the groundhog saw its shadow or not it is still a day to have fun!!!!
